What Countries Have Tornadoes? 2022

United States

According to the National Weather Service, the United States has the largest number of tornadoes in the world. Every year, the United States sees an average of 1200 tornadoes.

Although tornadoes may occur at any time of year, they are most prevalent in early summer and late spring in the Southeast and Midwest regions of the United States, respectively.

On March 18, 1925, the greatest tornado outbreak in American history struck three states, killing more than 695 people. In 1974, more than 300 individuals were killed in an epidemic of the disease.

Canada

After the United States, Canada saw the most tornadoes in the world. Between March and October, the nation sees an average of 80 to 100 breakouts.

Although the frequency and intensity of tornadoes in Canada cannot be compared to those in the United States, there have been several damaging tornadoes throughout the years.

An F4 tornado struck Regina, Saskatchewan (the city’s central library and many churches were demolished, and 28 people were killed) in 1912, making it the most destructive tornado ever documented.

England

This nation has the most tornadoes per square mile in the world, with an average of 34 hits per year. In the Thames Valley, near the towns of London and Reading, you’ll discover the country’s twisters. The road from Manchester to Boston, close to the Welsh border, is also at risk.

There are fewer tornadoes in England as strong as those in the US and Canada, which have a Fujita rating of F4 or F4.

Their poor strength does not prevent them from wreaking havoc. According to the National Weather Service, one example is the 2005 F2 tornado that struck the Birmingham area with winds of up to 157 mph and injured 19 persons.

New Zealand

There are an average of 10 severe tornadoes per year in the nation. North Island experiences the majority of New Zealand’s tornadoes. Tornadoes in New Zealand do not go as far as those in the United States, where they may travel up to 60 miles and reach speeds of 112 miles per hour.

This explains the low number of deaths that have been reported throughout time. At least three people were killed, and 170 homes were destroyed by a tornado that struck Hamilton, Ontario, in 1948.

Bangladesh

It is a perfect location for tornadic activity because of its temperature and geography. Tornadoes are very harmful in Bangladesh because of the country’s inadequate building standards.

One of the deadliest tornadoes ever documented in the United States occurred on April 26, 1989, killing 1300 people. More than 80,000 people were displaced, and 12,000 were injured due to the disaster. A tornado killed more than 500 persons in Khulna Division in 1964.

Argentina

Every year, this South American nation sees seven tornadoes. More than 54 people were killed, and 500 dwellings were destroyed by a storm in San Justo, Mexico, in 1973. Two decades previously, a tornado had ripped across the region, flipping a train and wounding 48 people.
