Germany – IKEA Country

According to some estimates, Germany has the most IKEAs in the world. In Germany, you may find IKEA in more than fifty-three different cities.

There are a total of four sites in Berlin. Germans throughout the globe have a deep and abiding fondness for IKEA. These premises house both the company’s flagship shop and its headquarters.

The Munich, Germany, shop first opened its doors in 1974. Located in Berlin-Lichtenberg is Germany’s biggest IKEA shop. It spans an expansive 45,000 square feet.

There are several additional well-known IKEAs throughout Germany, and a few of them can be found in the city of Berlin itself, namely the Berlin Spandau and Berlin Tempelhof locations.

Germans also highly regard the Cologne Am Butzweilerhof and the IKEA location at the Hannover Expo Park. Mannheim and Oldenburg, Germany, offer IKEA fans enormous shops to visit.

United States – Second Most IKEAs

Although Germany has more IKEA stores, the United States is not far behind. When IKEA first arrived in the United States in 1985, it did so in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, and now the state is home to more than 50 of its stores.

You may think of this as a suburb of Pennsylvania since it is just on the outskirts of the state.

A total of eight IKEA stores can be found throughout the Golden State. Texas and Pennsylvania have three IKEA stores, while Florida is in second place with four.

More than 456,000 square feet are devoted to the American IKEA superstore in Burbank, California. Atlanta’s IKEA shop is over 355,000 square feet, whereas the Chicago store is around 430 thousand square feet.

Two other cities with significant IKEA stores—Charlotte, North Carolina, and Boston, Massachusetts—also have locations that are over 300,000 square feet in size.

France Loves IKEA

The French love the European look of IKEA so much that the nation has more than 30 locations throughout the country. The number of IKEA shops in Paris, France, is equal to the total number in the states of Texas and Pennsylvania put together: six.

Marseille is home to France’s first and largest IKEA, which opened its doors in 1985 and spanned around 172,000 square feet. The IKEA in Paris, France, is the country’s biggest, with over 390k square feet.

China and IKEA Stores

With 29 IKEAs, China is just two behind the leader, France, in terms of the total number of shops. Shanghai’s biggest one is a whopping 592 thousand square feet in size.

Its Dalian counterpart is more significant than 410,000 square feet, while its Beijing counterpart is more significant than 452,000 square feet. China may only have the third-most IKEAs in terms of sheer quantity, but its shops are all enormous, so it may be first in terms of total square footage.
