Has anyone ever mentioned the World Values Survey (WVS) to you? If so, you have probably also wondered what it is. In addition to providing answers that may surprise you, the WVS may also be able to assist. If only in a roundabout way.

The World Values Survey (WVS)

The WVS is a lot like what the name implies and much more. The World Values Survey (WVS) is a global initiative developed by researchers, sociologists, and others from a variety of disciplines.

Topics including economics, politics, religion and cultural norms will be explored throughout the course.

The program’s overarching goal is to assess how values play out in diverse contexts. Long-term cultural beliefs affect things like economic growth, population size, and health. The World Values Study (WVS) evolved from the European Values Study, a precursor survey conducted in Europe.

WVS Then and Now

A professor at the University of Michigan was inspired by the European Values Study to launch the World Values Survey. The WVS evolved from such ideas. Back in 1981, when data collection and analysis were just getting started, the programme was in its infancy.

To date, WVS volunteers and staff have had the opportunity to interact with and learn about over 120 different cultures throughout the globe.

The curriculum and analysis are so illuminating and persuasive that they are now considered a reliable authority. WVS information is put to use by many different groups and institutions.

The WVS and Us

The World Values Survey (WVS) is a crucial data source since it is the biggest worldwide and non-commercial research programme on human beliefs and values.

The potential impact of this knowledge, though, is what matters. Knowledge is power in the realms of policymaking, decision-making, and planning. For that reason alone, the WVS is an incredible asset.

While the WVS is somewhat similar to what many might anticipate, the software does much more. More than 600 indicators and 150 research groups from all around the globe are a part of the initiative. Not only that but the WVS program’s data has been used in more than 30,000 articles.

Because of this, we may safely assume that the WVS has affected us in some manner. More than the average survey can say, this one seems to have had a good effect.
