Tasmania is, also known as TAS, is home to the three lowest populations of Australia, following the Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory. The capital of the state is Hobart.

Hobart is home to an estimated more than 211,000 residents. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 4 percent of Tasmania’s total population.

Tasmania’s territory is 68,401 sq km which makes it the smallest state. It is just 0.9 percent of the total land area in Australia.

Based on our study, Tasmania’s population will increase to 526,386 by the month of 2022. We calculate the number of people in the state by the end of June each year because the Australian Bureau of Statistics always adheres to Australia’s financial year when they release the figures.

This calculation was based upon the average growth rate of 0.28 percent over the last ten years, starting in 2011. We believe that using the latest year’s figures (see this table in the following section) will help to make the calculation more precise.
