Perth Population 2022 Statistics

Perth is the state’s capital city. Perth is home to an estimated 2.14 million inhabitants that make up 8.58 percent of the nation’s population.

Perth can be described as Australia’s fourth-largest city according to size. Perth falls within the South West Land Division of Western Australia, with the majority of the metropolitan region of Perth situated within the Swan Coastal Plain.

Based on our study, Perth’s population is expected to reach 2.695 million on the 30th of June 2022. We calculate the end of June each year due to the Australia Bureau of Statistics always following Australia’s fiscal year whenever we push the figures.

This calculation is made based on an annual growth rate of 4.47 percent over the last ten years, starting from 2011. We believe that using the most recent year’s figures (see this table in the following section) will help to make the calculation more precise.

Population Growth of Perth

In the ten years before the peak of Perth’s population growth, the rate is relatively high and ranges between 0.99 percent (2015) up to 9.58 percent (2012), which adds around 160,000 to 20,000 people every year to the total population. Additionally, Perth is the most rapid rate of growth in the nation.

One of the factors contributing to the rapid growth rate is the boom in mining in Western Australia, which created several jobs.

In the last two years, population growth has slowed. We believe this is connected to the mining sector, which is slowing because demands from China have slowed down.

This has led to people losing their jobs and relocating to states that are not as populated.
