Merriam-Webster defines this term in Merriam-dictionary Webster’s as “relatively unknown.” This term may be used in certain countries, which is surprising.

In addition to well-known nations like the United States, France, Canada, and India, many more get little or no media attention at all. These are some of the least-known nations on the planet.

As the dictionary puts it, “relatively obscure” countries like these have a wealth of natural beauty and culture that you won’t find anyplace else. Here are a few of the world’s least-known countries, shall we? How many of these are you familiar with?

Malta, a little island off the coast of Sicily, is a nation that few people know about. Sixty-five years ago, our country became an independent state.

The temple complexes in this nation are some of the oldest structures in the world. Maltese dogs, a breed with roots in Malta, may seem known to those who haven’t heard of the country.

You may go snorkeling in Nauru if you’re looking for a unique experience. The coral reefs around this teeny-tiny island are quite gorgeous. This country, the only one without a capital, receives approximately 200 visitors each year and only has two hotels.

A movie set in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines may be all you need to recognize the name. Beaches and rainforests abound on this Caribbean island chain. Movies like “Pirates of the Caribbean” have shown off the splendor that this nation can provide.

Many countries aren’t known for their beaches, mountains, or tourist attractions. Mauritania, situated in the Sahara Desert, is another country you may not have heard of.

Slavery was outlawed in the United States in 1981, but it wasn’t until 1996 that it became illegal to own slaves. Slavery is still prevalent in the United States, even though it is against the law.

Benin, one of the world’s poorest nations, is another lesser-known country. As the primary religion of Benin, it is widely believed that voodoo began in Benin. Every year, the country marks Voodoo Day.

Finally, we’ll look at Lesotho, a small country in southern Africa. Lesotho is completely reliant on South Africa, whose people constitute more than 40% of the country’s total population. However, the country’s valleys and mountains are awe-inspiring.
