GCC Countries 2024

A regional intergovernmental organization known as the Gulf Cooperation Council, or GCC, comprises six countries situated in the Persian Gulf.

First founded in 1981 in reaction to the Iraqi/Iranian conflict to form a cohesive front against terrorism, the Gulf Cooperation Council has been renamed the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Every Arab state in the Persian Gulf, excluding Iraq and Iran, is a GCC member. This group’s mission is to develop a sense of common purpose and shared political and cultural values among its member countries, which are rooted in Islamic teachings.

After Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990, the nation could no longer participate as an observer. It was in 2007 when Yemen started the process of applying for membership in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Detractors refer to Yemen’s inferior economy and political atmosphere as reasons why the GCC may reject membership in Yemen in the first place.

Nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Arab and Persian countries’ differences

The GCC member countries’ combined size, population, and GDP amount to more than 1 million square miles and 54 million people, respectively.

Although some GCC member states are constitutional monarchies and others are absolute monarchs, all GCC countries have monarchies.

The GCC countries have some of the world’s greatest oil reserves and are among the world’s leading oil producers and exporters.

Are mainly based on the pursuit of structural reform measures by some of the world’s major countries to minimize the member countries’ reliance on oil.

The governments of Persian nations like Iran and Iraq have nothing in common with those of the GCC members. For example, in Persian nations, planned marriages are common, although they don’t speak Arabic.

GCC and Persian nations, for example, tend to be culturally conservative, even homophobic, and among the countries least likely to celebrate Christmas.

Proposals for a Gulf Union were put up in 2011, which would see the GCC transformed from a cooperative body to a Gulf Union comparable to the European Union.

By joining forces, the GCC member nations would gain greater economic and military security and help balance Iran’s growing influence in the area, which many Arab countries consider a danger.
