Peace Corps Countries 2022

An autonomous agency and volunteer program, the Peace Corps is a non-governmental organization. Serving in the Peace Corps is a way to immerse yourself in a foreign community and engage with local leaders to address the most serious issues of our day.

The U.S. government runs the agency, which offers worldwide social and economic development aid. The Peace Corps pursues three purposes in order to advance global peace and goodwill:

  1. To enable the people of the nations interested in supplying skilled men and women to satisfy their needs.
  2. To help the individuals, we serve to better understand the United States.
  3. To encourage Americans to have a greater knowledge of foreign cultures.

On March 1, 1961, President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order 10924, creating the Peace Corps. On September 21, 1962, Congress passed the Peace Corps Act, which authorized the order. Voluntary service is required to participate in the Peace Corps.

Most volunteers have a college degree and undergo a three-month training program before beginning their two-year service assignment overseas. 235,000 volunteers have served in 141 countries since the Peace Corps was founded in 1961.

All volunteers were evacuated from their locations throughout the globe due to the coronavirus epidemic, and there are no volunteers presently serving.

Initiatives

Illnesses

They want to educate people about diseases prevalent in underdeveloped nations and how to prevent them from spreading. Common volunteer activity is to share their knowledge of current farming methods with community people to encourage them to grow their food in the future.

Malaria eradication in Africa is one of these attempts. Volunteers from 24 nations are now part of this effort, which was started in 2011 and has grown rapidly since then.

Environmental

The Corps also launched three major environmental programs. The administration of protected areas collaborates with park employees and other programs to spread knowledge about resource conservation, wildlife preservation, and revenue-generating activities for environmental protection.

Environmental education or awareness focuses on populations with environmental and economic challenges.

Environmental education in schools, the formation of environmental groups, the promotion of forest and marine sustainability, the development of revenue-generating strategies, the management of sanitary facilities, and the teaching of soil conservation, vegetable farming, and forestry to farmers are all part of these programs.

Conservation of natural resources is aided by producing sustainable fuels, preserving biodiversity, and soil conservation via forestry education.

The reaction of the Peace Corps

The Peace Corps Response is based on the Emergency Response Network of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, established in 1996 as the Crisis Corps. Thanks to the nomenclature change to Peace Corps Response, the Peace Corps may now react to initiatives that aren’t quite crisis-level.

Former Peace Corps volunteers are placed in “high-impact” positions via the Peace Corps Response. The same allowances and perks are given to these volunteers as Peace Corps members. A year of Peace Corps service and medical and legal clearances are required for participation in the Peace Corps Response.

Education

Teachers in the United States and abroad may use the tools developed by the Peace Corps, including a final exam, lesson plans, and recordings.
