London Population 2022 Statistics

London is home to some of the largest monetary centers in the world. It is also the most populous city in England and the United Kingdom.

London is located in the southeast of Great Britain and has a population of approximately 9.0 million. It is the largest city in the UK.

Our research shows that London’s population will be 9.20 million in July 2021. Because the Office for National Statistics (ONS), normally publishes estimates for the same period, we use the first day of July every year.

This calculation is based upon the average annual growth rate of 1.08% in the last 10 years. The calculation will be more accurate if we use the most recent years’ data (see the table below).

Population Growth of London

If you look at the past ten years of London’s population growth, you will see that there have been many changes in the numbers.

The growth rate in London has been around 0.2% to 1.76% over the past ten years, which is roughly 20,000 to 150,000 people per year.

Many people move to London each year due to the advancement and enhancement of facilities and opportunities in education, health, and other profiting areas.

This has resulted in a steady increase in population each year, allowing London to maintain its position as the most populated place in the United Kingdom.

Demographics of London

The 2011 UK Census revealed that 37% of London’s population is made up of immigrants from different parts of the globe.

London, which includes such large numbers of emigrants, is considered the second-largest city.

The London population is split by gender with 52% being female and 48% being male. London’s average age is 40 and a half years.

London is multi-racial. Whites make up 59.8% of London’s total population. This includes 44.9% of White Britons, 12.2% of Irish Whites, and 12.2% from other parts of the globe.

London’s 20.9% Asian population is made up of Asians. Asian statistics include 6.6% Indians, 2.7% Pakistanis, and 2.7% Bangladeshis. 1.5% of the population is Chinese. 1.3% of Arabs live on the Mainland, while the rest are from other parts of Asia.

London is home to 15.6% Black and mixed-black ancestors. 13.3% are of absolute Black ancestry, while only 2.3% are of mixed-Black ancestry.

The London population includes 7.0% Black Africans. There are 4.2% Black Caribbeans and 2.1% Blacks from other tribes. 5% of the population is made up of half-breeds.

There are 300+ languages spoken in London. Among them, English is spoken by 77.9% of the population. A few people cannot speak English.

They preferred to speak their native languages. So, 1.9% speak Polish, 1.5% can converse in Bengali and 1.3% use Gujarati to communicate with each other.

Londoners are open to many religions. London has a high proportion of Christians, which is 58.23%. No religion is the second most popular religion in London, i.e. atheist.

According to their religion, the third-largest population in London is Muslims who account for 12.39%. Hinduism and Judaism are followed by Sikhism and Buddhism.

London’s population density is 5,590 per square meter. This makes London the second-most populated city after Portsmouth.
